My name is Tara Whittick and I am the sole  owner/operator / caregiver of Mountain Kids Childcare – a license pending childcare facility in the homelands of the Ktunaxa and Secwépemc in the beautiful mountain town of Invermere, B.C.

I am a graduate from the University of Calgary’s Masters of Teaching program and have 20 years of teaching experience working with children of all ages. Prior to becoming a teacher in British Columbia I ran a childcare centre in Saskatchewan, and I loved it!

My philosophies of teaching and learning align well with those of the Montessori Method, Waldorf Early Education – engaging head, heart and hands, and Forest Nature School, using Place Based Education practices.

I have extensive training and experience in community and place-based teaching and learning practices. I also have a background in theatre, music, French, dance, yoga, gardening and parenting. My husband and I are raising our two lovely kids who are now teenagers and learn about parenting teens everyday!

Research shows that getting outdoors everyday is beneficial to our emotional, mental and physical health. With this in mind, I will aim to go outside to play with the kids every day. Some days we will play in our fenced yard. Other days we will walk to a local park. We will get to the parks by walking, or organized field trips where parents will drop-off and pick-up.
